Ready for the next chapter of your life to begin?
In a world of 8 billion people, you have a unique story of joys and pains, and your own capacity to transform it into a life of meaning and goodness. Perhaps you also have wounds that still need healing, wounds that strip your potential to live your fullest life.
I am honored to hear your story. In therapy, we partner together to address the root of the problem, to help you heal from your wounds, to identify those pieces that hold you back from growth, and to live your most fulfilling life.
You are a marvel
About Me

I have received fellowship awards from the American Psychoanalytic Association and American Psychiatric Association. I have additional interests in religious trauma, Asian American identity and shame dynamics. Outside of my private practice, I am currently a staff psychiatrist and clinical researcher at VA San Diego Healthcare System and UCSD. Psychotherapy
My main modality is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), a form of emotion-focused psychoanalytic treatment that gets at the root of internal emotional problems. Both long-term and short-term work have unique advantages: long-term work allows more time for a rich exploration, while short-term work helps us to hone in on a core focus which we can more rapidly address. I am here to help you heal from your problem as rapidly as you would want and feel ready for, so you don’t have to suffer any longer than you have to (or spend any more time and money than you need to!). If you’ve tried various other types of therapy but still have some core emotional relational difficulties no matter how much you’ve talked about them, perhaps this approach is for you. I also integrate components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH certification).

Medication management
I do a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to evaluate for psychiatric and medical contributors to your difficulties, and can prescribe medications, evidence-based supplements or recommend other treatments as needed to augment the core psychotherapeutic treatment.
As a certified Integrative Psychiatry Institute physician, I take a wholistic approach that incorporates the best of life saving medication approaches where appropriate, combined with a comprehensive look at diet, exercise, supplements, nutraceuticals, and other life style factors
-
Ketamine assisted psychotherapy
I have clinical and research experience in psychedelic assisted psychotherapies and use these approaches where recommended

FAQs
Where is your office located?
Presently, I am offering telepsychiatry appointments over a HIPAA compliant, privacy-encrypted video interface. I also hold in-person sessions in Encinitas, CA.
What are your rates?
Session fee:
$400 per hour
$200 per 30 minutes
$100 per 15 minutes
I keep a number of sliding scale slots available to make services more affordable. Do not hesitate to inquire if needed!
What takes place during the initial consultation visit?
I comprehensively review your mental and medical health history to get a thorough understanding of your situation. At the end we will discuss an integrated treatment plan that involves psychotherapy, behavioral goals, and possibly medications, supplements, bloodwork and referrals to other specialists. Because I work first and foremost as a psychotherapist, we also use the first session to get a sense of how we might work together in therapy and to feel if the fit is right for you
What types of psychotherapy do you perform?
- Psychodynamic therapy, particularly Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Mindfulness
- Clinical Hypnosis
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Ketamine assisted psychotherapy
How long are appointments?
- The initial visit is 60 minutes.
- Follow up psychotherapy appointments are usually 60-90 minutes. In some circumstances, larger blocks of therapy (2-3 hours) are indicated
- Follow up medication visits are usually 15-30 minutes
Do you treat children or adolescents?
At this time, I only treat adults age 18 and older.
What do I do in case of emergencies?
I will usually respond within 48 business hours (8 am to 5 pm), if not sooner. If you are in crisis and in need of immediate evaluation or assistance, such as thoughts of suicide, thoughts of harming self or others, severe medication side effects or drug reactions, or other emergencies, then please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
Do you take insurance?
I am not on an insurance panels, but can provide you with a superbill which you can submit to your insurance company. Meanwhile, the full visit fee is charged to you while awaiting reimbursement from your insurance company, normally via check in about 4 weeks. Most companies pay 20-80% the cost of the visit. You can determine how much your insurance company will cover by calling customer service and asking about “mental health out-of-network benefits and coverage.”
